Malakoff Diggins State Historic Park boasts one of the state’s most beautiful, peaceful and shaded campgrounds set amongst tall pine and cedar trees. The 30 family sites vary in size and most sites can accommodate two tents. Each site has a picnic table with benches, a bear-proof food locker, and a fire bin. Potable water is available close to each site as well as bear-proof garbage receptacles. Flush toilet restrooms are located a short walk from your campsite. There are no RV hookups or showers available in the campground.
The campsites may be reserved (if the campground is open) through the state parks reservation system, Reserve California, by going online at www.reservecalifornia.com or calling (800) 444-7275. Customer Call Center: (800) 444-PARK (7275). Call center hours of operation: 7 days a week, from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. PST (except New Year’s Day, Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day). The best times to call are midday and midweek, when the phone lines are less busy.
Malakoff Diggins SHP also has a group site available for up to 60 campers and 16 vehicles. The site has its own heated bathroom, barbecue grill, fire pit and eating area, as well as bear-proof food lockers. This secluded site allows for groups such as large families, scout groups or church organizations who wish to enjoy tent camping away from the individual family sites.
Malakoff Diggins SHP offers three rustic miner’s cabins named after prominent characters from the town’s past for nightly rental located right in the heart of historic North Bloomfield. The “Smith” Cabin offers accessibility for visitors with limited physical mobility. When making your reservations, if available, you may select which cabin to reserve.
Your stay will be “like camping with a roof over your head.” You will need bedding items for the bunk beds. There is no electricity or bathroom in the cabin. Restrooms are a short walk away.
Cabins can be reserved up to seven months in advance by calling “Reserve California” at 1-800-444-7275 or you can go to Reserve California for the reservation link. Extra vehicles will be charged $8.00 per night and fees will be collected at the park when you arrive. No tents are allowed outside your cabin. Dogs are permitted inside the cabins and must be leashed when outside and under control at all times. This is strictly enforced to protect the wildlife and your dog.
